The free-weight areas at Bally are almost separate communities. In the Loop and South Loop locations, the free weights are in the lowest levels, requiring descending an extra flight of stairs. The members here tend to appear more serious about fitness. Weight machines are somewhat forgiving – people often use them improperly without a problem. But if you’re not executing precise form with free weights, you’ll mess yourself up.
There are odd signs posted in the free-weight areas that read:
All equipment must remain in this area.
Do not remove from this area.
Were members actually lugging giant weights up the stairs to the other club sections? Seems unlikely. And idiotic.
Enjoy your workout.
